It was great to share White Gloves and Collards with friends, family, and other readers at the Barker House in Edenton , Quail Ridge Books & Music i n Raleigh, McIntyre's Books in Fearrington Village, and Park Road Books in Charlotte (see slide show below). I even got to be interviewed by Mike Collins of "Charlotte Talks" on NPR affiliate WFAE. Click here to listen to the interview.
For a Del Mar book club gathering last night, the hostess, Alice McNally, made my aunt Mae's recipe for Sock-It-To-Me Poundcake. It was even more delicious than I remember and the perfect accompaniment to a discussion of White Gloves and Collards. Here's the recipe:
Ingredients
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine cake mix, sour cream, oil, sugar, and eggs and beat with a mixer for two minutes. Pour half of batter into a greased and floured tube pan. Sprinkle with filling and add rest of batter. Bake for 25 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes and remove from pan. Combine the glaze ingredients and pour over the cake. I hope that North Carolina friends will be able to attend one of my White Gloves and Collards readings. It would be great to see you!

Publishers and Writers of San Diego awarded me a scholarship to attend the Independent Book Publishers Association’s (IBPA’s) 2014 Publishing University in San Francisco, March 21-22. Before the conference, I was the special guest of my former book club in Saratoga, CA.
On March 10, I was the featured author at a book club gathering at Pam Devere Crooks’ home in El Cajon, CA. Another great discussion of White Gloves and Collards.
Enjoyed being the featured author at a gathering at Gale Graybill's house in Del Mar--especially since we got to drink bourbon from jars labeled with my book's characters!
Award-winning article from 1965 captures the setting of White Gloves and Collards. Click here to download a PDF of the full article, written by my cousin, Bill Goodwin, when he was a senior at UNC's School of Journalism.
